"How HOVIS won the War"

Revised 6/7/2003

A 1940's sing-along W.R.N.S. show, starring Fiona Harrison - the spiffing story of a heroine who Hounds the Hun after uncovering a beastly plot!

Set on the island of Orkney in early 1945, it tells the story of Henrietta Octavia Victoria Isabella Scapa, a plucky young 'WREN' who has been sent as far away from HQ in Portsmouth as possible. Known to her chums as 'Hovis', our young heroine has been left with Tommy, the Gay Tannoy and Flying Officer Kite to run a small radio request station for the local inhabitants, and also to cheer up the national services and allies anchored off Scapa flow.

During the show many super songs of the period are sung, including Blaze Away, Goodnight Sweetheart, Putting on the Ritz, Jealousy, As time goes by, In the Mood, Anchors Away, and many other great favourites in which the audience are encouraged to participate. Plus a little-heard bonus number (from the early fifties) that usually 'takes people's breath away'.

The show concludes with a big finale where our heroine is assisted by Flying Officer Kite (Paul Spence) who summons backup from a Sunderland flying boat crew to finish off the devastation that Hovis has dished out to the U-boats.

All of the musical orchestrations have been specially written for Fiona and digitally recorded to a very high standard at Raw Music Studios

Each of the two 45-minute halves, separated by a 20 minute interval to allow for costume and scene change, contains a lavish helping of feel-good humour and the occasional dramatic surprise.

Audiences all over the country - including the Orkneys, where the story takes place - have always been left yearning for more...
